World Definitive Issues

Article 120: Cuba 1868 10 Centimos

I show details of the lettering in this page. The four corner have the letters C, O, R, and R, the first four of the word for mail (CORREOS). This design is reminescent of the Ebgland line engraved issues that had just cease mail service in 1864). Although there are minor variations, these details show that the irregualrities in the design are from the plate and present in every die, and not from plate wear of specific dies in the plate, as is the case for the first issue of stamps from Cuba. Quick links main page, images of the center design, details of the top and bottom legends.
Below is a detail of the bottom lettering.
