Article 4: The Wells Fargo Correspondence

The India Modern Definitives make other very common definitives, with the notable exception of the U.S. first class rate definitives, seem rare by comparison. These stamps are VERY common. In excess of one billion people use them. Luckily for stamp collectors, postal meters are rarely used. Illustrated here are the most common stamps from the Wells Fargo correspondence.
Through an ebay seller, I was lucky to obtain the Wells Fargo correspondence (described in articles 4-introduction, 11-2 Rps value, and 26-including other material).
The cover illustrated below is from the Wells Fargo correspondence, which consists of 437 covers from various banks in India to the Wells Fargo Bank in New York mailed during 1981 and 1982. There are almost 100 distinct postal rates in this correspondence. The equivalent rate structure in the United States could not encompass more than a dozen rates.
