The 1935-51 Definitives of Argentina

"cents" Cover to Germany Early Censor Label May 27, 1938

This cover was mailed during historically significant times. Nazi Germany invaded Austria March 12, 1938, and was months away from the Munich agreement in which Germany was given Czechoslovakia, on September 30, 1938. The cover bears 45 centavos in postage. It is difficult to determine if this is a philatelic cover, since it does satisfy a specific rate: 30 centavos overweight ship rate, and a 15 centavos registry charge. Here are quick lines to pages for the three major groups: philatelic exhibition covers, covers that are quite likely philatelic, and covers that seem to represent regular use.
Below is a detail of the stamps. The cover bears singles of the 1c1E, 2c1E, 4cGY1E, and 10cR1E, as well as a vertical pair and single of the 6c1E, and a vertical pair of the 5c1E. It is postmarked at kilometer marker 85 (KILOMETRO 85) in the province of Santa Fe (S.F.).
The censorship marking on the back of this cover is the first type used by Nazi Germany. It was superseded by censorship markings of the Whermacht after Poland was invaded, and full-blown war broke out in Europe.
