Argentina 1935-51 5 Pesos Multiples for Plate Varieties
Here are a few multiples showing at least one plate variety. This 5 Pesos plate study is divided
into several major sections: there are several
major plate varieties
for which I have at least two specimens, and there are
several minor plate varieties, represented here by one specimen.
I also have a section for printing shifts, specimens with overall plate wear, and multiples showing at least one plate variety. Below, I include thumbnails to the major plate varieties. The thumbs are also linked. |
The block of four shown below has three major plate varieties. The upper left stamp is a "long line across lower center design" plate variety. The upper right specimen is a "two scratches diagonally over right-upper corner" plate variety. Notice the spot to the left of the "R" in "REPUBLICA." The lower left stamp is a "short upper corner scratch" plate variety. It is not necessarily true that we are looking at unique plate positions. It is possible that strips or blocks of master dies were used to generate the plate. |

The upper right stamp in the block of four shown below is a "long line across lower center design" plate variety. The lower left stamp, while not a major plate variety, has a distinctive scratch above the denomination on the outer edge, and a dot in the lower outer line under the "E" of "DEL." |

The block of four shown below has two major plate varieties. The upper right stamp is a "long line across lower center design" plate variety. The lower right stamp is a "short upper corner scratch" plate variety. The lower left stamp is not identical to the stamp in the previous block. It may be that there is a repeating sequence of two strips of plate dies. |

The pair shown below has the "two scratches diagonally over right-upper corner" plate variety on the right stamp (detail to the right), and the "long line across lower center design" plate variety on the left stamp (detail below image of pair). |
